April Bridal Showers, Brings May Wedding Flowers!

Updated: May 5, 2023

Happy May! As we continue celebrating those spring weddings, let me “shower” you with tips and tricks that will help decide on a Spring wedding! There are many things to consider when you start picking seasons for your big day, including apparel, weather, favors, and more. Did you know that Spring weddings allow for the most floral selections? Or that traditionally May is the wettest time of year in the Midwest? Here are some more points to consider when wanting the beauty of Spring to POP on your wedding day!

  1. Venue: Let me start with saying your perfect day does not have to be ruined by rain! But if you are determined to have a dry wedding, make sure your venues have both outdoor and indoor areas, just in case there is unpredictable weather.

  2. Attire: Take the heat and humidity into consideration for later Spring or early Summer weddings. Lighter color pallets and lighter fabric material makes everyone more comfortable, plus lighter colors tend to look gorgeous with the Spring backdrop of the outdoors. Adding a pastel pant or floral inspired print tie can add the springtime element you want/need. Floral headpieces, or just adding small delicate flowers to your bridal hair, can be a great way to add a spring vibe to your look.

  3. Tradition: If you are wanting to participate in the traditional rice throwing exit after the ceremony, give it a fun Spring-filled twist by doing a flower petal exit. Have your guests throw your choice of flower petals, these pictures are so romantic!

  4. Party favors: Tired of koozies? Put a unique twist on your favors! Have your party favors for your guests be seeds to your favorite flowers, or flowers you used in your bouquet. Even small, palm sized plants could be a fun option!

  5. Signature Cocktails: Cheers! You can garnish your signature drink with a small floral for a physical, eye catching experience. Or if you want to give your family and friends’ tastebuds a burst of Spring, you can try a lavender, blueberry, or basil lemonade cocktail! Want to keep it really casual? Seltzers are a great spring/summer drink, too.

  6. Choosing a wedding date: You got the season, now for the date. Spring weddings can be tricky when it comes to scheduling due to graduations, Easter and Mother’s Day. Keep this in mind to plan ahead and accommodate your guests, and yourself!

  7. Indoor Ceremony: If you are doing an indoor ceremony, bring outdoor elements inside with your decor to keep a cohesive spring theme. Vines and garland, drooping baby’s breath, and springtime florals can all achieve this goal.

  8. Outdoor Cocktail Hour: If your cocktail hour is outdoors and you are wanting a fun, memorable time (or if kiddos are invited), have yard games set out like cornhole, washers, horseshoes, draw a wedding hopscotch on the pavement, Jenga games etc.

  9. Umbrellas: Whether you have them clear or color coordinated with your theme, always make sure you have umbrellas handy for your wedding party, and even guests!

  10. Rain: DON’T panic! What’s the old saying? If it rains on your wedding day you are in for a long, happy marriage. Sometimes rainy weddings end up having the most perfect pictures, including the best memories with family and friends

Whether you decide on a Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter wedding, remember to consider all outcomes, and decide what at the end of the day you can and can’t live without. If a little bad weather doesn’t bother you, or your heart is set on having the most beautiful florals and temperatures, a spring wedding is for you!
